AtlantiCare World AIDS Day ceremony promotes unity,
recognizes students for awareness artwork

AtlantiCare staff, leadership, and members of the community hnored individuals who have lost their lives to HIV/AIDS, and those living with the disease, during AtlantiCare’s annual World AIDS Day Ceremony December 1 at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center (ARMC) Atlantic City Campus.

Speakers included Patricia Foglio-Geller, of Ocean City, who contracted AIDs 25 years ago, and Edward Hamaty, D.O., chairman, Department of Critical Career; medical director, Neuro Critical Care; and executive sponsor of AtlantiCare’s PRIDE employee resource group, AtlantiCare.

AtlantiCare also recognized winners and participants of its World AIDS Day Poster Contest. Held through the AtlantiCare Healing Arts Program and in collaboration with Atlantic City High School, the goal of the contest was to raise awareness, fight prejudice and improve education about HIV and AIDS. Approximately 30 Atlantic City High School students submitted pieces for the contest. AtlantiCare has displayed many of the submissions at the hospital campus since November 21. Winners were:

About the AtlantiCare Infectious Disease Clinic The AtlantiCare Infectious Disease Clinic was established in 1989. It is a multidisciplinary, hospital-based practice that provides health maintenance, disease prevention, and care for hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS. The Infectious Disease Clinic is funded in part by New Jersey Department of Health and the Division of HIV, STD and TB Services. AtlantiCare provides services for patients eligible for the Ryan White Part B grant and for patients with no insurance in Atlantic and Cape May counties.

AtlantiCare offers rapid HIV testing and Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) at the following locations:  ARMC’s Department of Clinic Services, Infectious Disease Clinic, William L. Gormley AtlantiCare HealthPlex, 1401 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City: Monday through Friday 8 a.m.to 4 p.m.  ARMC’s Satellite Emergency Department, 219 North White Horse Pike, Hammonton: Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.  ARMC, Atlantic City Campus Emergency Department. 1925 Pacific Avenue, Atlantic City: Seven days a week from 9 a.m.to 9 p.m.  ARMC, Mainland Campus Emergency Department, 65 West Jimmie Leeds Road, Pomona: Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The AtlantiCare Infectious Disease Clinic provided testing, counseling, and/or treatment referrals to more than700 clients in 2016. It anticipates doing so for more than 850 clients by the end of 2017. AtlantiCare’s Emergency Department expects to have tested and counseled more than 4,000 clients by the end of 2017.
