When the treatment includes surgery.
Our AtlantiCare experienced, skilled on-staff surgeons will work with you and other members of your breast-health team to provide personalized care options tailored to your diagnosis and your needs. Consulting with you to determine the appropriate procedure or series of procedures, our surgeons provide some of the most advanced options available.
Depending on your diagnosis, your surgical options could include the following:
Breast-sparing procedure and needle localization — Also known as a lumpectomy, this procedure conserves as much of the healthy breast as possible during surgery.
Mastectomy, including nipple-sparing procedure — A procedure that removes all of the breast tissue without removing the nipple or the dark skin around it, called the areola. Your surgeon will determine if you are a candidate for a nipple-sparing procedure.
Plastic surgery for breast reconstruction and implants — This process can take place either immediately following or several months or years after a mastectomy or lumpectomy, and creates a breast shape using an artificial implant or your own tissue.
Treatment is a team approach and may involve other therapies.
At AtlantiCare, you’ll benefit from innovative technologies that treat many types of breast cancer with greater accuracy and safety, and with fewer side effects. These technologies allow radiation oncologists at ARMC to precisely pinpoint high doses of therapy to your tumor site, so you’ll spend less time undergoing treatments, with fewer sessions, over a shorter period of time than you would with traditional radiation. ARMC’s Department of Radiation Oncology is accredited by the American College of Radiology for radiation therapy.
