Who We Are
AtlantiCare’s vision is to build healthy communities, and we recognize that one of the cornerstones of a healthy community is healthy food. By increasing access to fresh, healthy foods, and increasing awareness and skills around nutrition content, food preparation, and incorporation into daily diets, we can educate and equip community members to lead healthier lives.
AtlantiCare partners with key community stakeholders and empowers individuals to make healthy food choices through its Growing Green initiative. This program offers resources, access, and education.
- Since 2009, our school garden construction and sustainability grants have supported 27 school gardens in our service area and
- Since 2011, our community garden construction and sustainability grants have supported 6 community gardens.
In addition to these funds, Growing Green offers complementary educational programming led by health educators, dieticians, garden experts, and academic scholars.
We also continue to innovate our approaches and will pilot produce voucher programs in 2012. We partner with community agencies to deliver a broad-based strategy that ensures sustainability and community ownership. We aim to engage the individual and the community in taking charge of its collective health.
