School at Work student Tammy Heiler receives "Dream Achievers!" Award

Catalyst Learning Company recognized Tammy Heiler, of Mullica Township, patient financial application specialist at AtlantiCare, November 14 as one of eleven "Dream Achievers!" Award recipients.

The "Dream Achievers!" awards are part of a nationwide contest sponsored by Catalyst Learning Company, which designs courses for healthcare workforce development. Nominations for the award were based on an employee's continuing efforts towards professional education and career achievement and winners were selected through an online voting process hosted by Catalyst Learning.

"We are very proud of Tammy," said vice president for Human Resources Rick Lovering. "She is a deserving recipient – a dedicated employee and student, and a real team player. She was as invested in her classmates' success as she was in her own."

"Tammy exemplifies what the School At Work program is about," added Ken Bishop, coordinator, Organizational Development, AtlantiCare, who facilitates the program at AtlantiCare and nominated Heiler. "She saw an opportunity to advance within our organization and she knew that SAW could help get her there." Heiler was a part of AtlantiCare's 2011 SAW graduating class, and through this experience and with encouragement from AtlantiCare leadership, Heiler, then a hospice certified home health aide, began pursuing her aspirations of professional development. She accepted a new position with AtlantiCare weeks after completing the program.

Heiler joined AtlantiCare in 2006, and said that the School At Work program has helped her gain the self-confidence she needed to move forward in her career. "I learned tools to improve my self-presentation: writing and speaking and improving my resume," she said, adding that she brushed up on many dormant skills she now uses in her position as patient financial application specialist. "AtlantiCare senior leadership was very supportive throughout this time of professional and personal growth – as was my family. For me, the program was life-changing."

AtlantiCare began offering the School At Work program in 2008 with the intention of expanding employees' professional advancement opportunities, increasing team engagement, and improving patient experience.

"School At Work has been a wonderful addition to our employee development offerings. Many of our SAW graduates, like Tammy, have advanced their careers with AtlantiCare and are continuing their education," said Lovering. "And they all continue to be highly engaged employees, and help us achieve AtlantiCare's vision of building healthy communities."
