Physicians and staff marked the completion of $2.3 million in major renovations to 1 Pines, the inpatient psychiatric unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's Mainland Campus, with a ribbon cutting March 6, 2014.
"This is an important program at AtlantiCare, and today is an exciting day for us" said Lori Herndon, executive vice president, AtlantiCare and president and CEO, ARMC. "As the unit has evolved since its opening in 1985, it has seen many changes. We are thrilled to now have a facility that matches the dedication, compassion, and talent of our experienced staff. Patients and families will benefit for years to come."
The renovations, which began in September 2013, incorporated extensive staff input and included expanding the unit from 30 to 34 beds and renovations to existing patient rooms, the nurses' station, activity rooms, and other areas. It culminated in the creation of a better patient environment.
Inua Momodu, MD, MP, chairman, Department of Psychiatry, ARMC and medical director, AtlantiCare Behavioral Health, thanked unit staff, who provided input for the renovations. "Throughout construction, their commitment to patients and patients' care was unparalleled. We look forward to continuing to provide excellent care in this new, improved environment."
