Who is a Candidate For Heart Disease?
Heart disease does not discrimnate. However, it is more prevalent in some groups than in others. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in:*
- African-Americans
- Hispanics
- American Indians

Also at high risk are people who
- have high cholesterol and other lipids
- are diabetic
- are stressed by job, family, finances, life
- lead sedentary lives
- are smokers
- are overweight or obese
- have high blood pressure
- eat foods that contain too much salt
Even young people can suffer heart attacks, especially if:
- heart disease runs in the family
- they overdo sports activity
- they are taking steroids of any kind
- they have congenital heart disease that wasn’t diagnosed at birth
- they are overweight or diabetic
