On Tuesdays, the hallways are filled with a palpable sense of excitement and anticipation at Weymouth Township School District in Dorothy, NJ. Students and staff eagerly participate in Thrive Together Tuesdays, a program that has become a cornerstone of the school's well-being initiatives. Thanks to an AtlantiCare Healthy Schools grant, everyone wears comfortable workout clothing, engaging in movement activities or mindful exercises at the end of the day. During the month of May, Tuesdays feature a guest instructor, bringing diverse fitness experiences such as Zumba, kickboxing, and yoga.

In a significant event in April, students rallied for a special occasion—the unveiling of a new automatic defibrillator. The Weymouth Township School District recently received a generous grant from AtlantiCare Healthy Schools dedicated to promoting health and safety. To mark the occasion, a gathering took place, where the school nurse showcased the use and importance of the automatic defibrillator and heart health and ways to improve heart health. Throughout the day, the school community participated in activities highlighting the significance of having an automatic defibrillator on-site and heart healthy initiatives. The staff and students were educated on its location and how it could be a vital resource in emergency situations.

The grant not only contributed to the acquisition of the automatic defibrillator but also facilitated ongoing wellness programs. AtlantiCare’s, Chefs in the Classroom, educated elementary school students how to make healthy meals to assist in keeping the body and mind healthy. The presentation “Don’t Get Vaped in” was provided for seventh and eighth graders to educate on the dangers of vaping. Mindfulness kits were also provided with an assortment of age-appropriate items for children experiencing anxiety. Weymouth Township School District Superintendent Al Lewis said, “Our district is immensely grateful for AtlantiCare and their partnership with our school community. Their generosity and involvement has helped to ensure our students learn healthy choices and lifestyles, while also equipping our school with vital medical equipment.” The district remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting health and safety within the community, ensuring an ongoing dedication through the collaborative initiative of Thrive Together Tuesdays in partnership with AtlantiCare.
