“We are embracing the future, changing the paradigm and creating capabilities that our community needs and deserves,” said Lori Herndon, president and CEO, about AtlantiCare’s new Center for Orthopaedic Surgery in its Health Park in Egg Harbor Township. She made the remarks surrounded by more than 100 healthcare providers, community leaders, and other guests during a reception and ribbon cutting at the facility January 29.
“We will open the center in the spring to meet the increasing need for same-day orthopaedic surgeries, including same-day joint and spine surgeries,” said Melissa Bushnell, RN, MSN, assistant vice president, AtlantiCare Surgery Centers. “The trend in healthcare is to provide high-quality care in a lower-cost setting. We’ve designed this center to offer the most advanced surgical technology in a in a convenient, welcoming environment.”
AtlantiCare’s Center for Orthopaedic Surgery will open in spring, 2020.
A bright, comfortable, spacious reception area for patients and families awaiting surgical procedures features electronic charging stations, a coffee bar, and large window walls. Neutral shades of blue, white, gray, and brown throughout interior facility add to a soothing environment. More than 60 piece of art by local and regional artists hang throughout the building through the AtlantiCare Foundation’s Healing Arts Program.
Providers and staff who will care for patients and families at AtlantiCare’s Center for Orthopaedic Surgery when it opens this spring were among those who attended a reception and ribbon cutting for the facility January 29.
“This is a phenomenal facility,” said Mike West, CEO, Rothman Orthopaedics. “The center will allow us to provide more outpatient and same-day surgeries while maximizing the patient experience and satisfaction.”
AtlantiCare anticipates performing up to 5,000 same-day outpatient surgeries a year at the facility. These will include orthopaedic sports medicine, foot and ankle, hand, spine and pain management procedures as well as total hip and knee replacements.
Paul Hodson, Egg Harbor Township mayor, acknowledged the addition of the center to the services AtlantiCare provides throughout the health park. “Thank you for the commitment you’ve made to helping our community and the surrounding communities when they need care,” he said.
AtlantiCare’s flagship surgery center – which opened in the same health park in 1997 – will continue to provide a wide range of same-day surgeries, including orthopaedic surgeries, as will AtlantiCare’s surgery centers in Cape May Court House and Little Egg Harbor. So, too, will AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Musculoskeletal and Neurosciences institutes, in the hospital’s Mainland (Pomona) and Atlantic City campuses.
