About Me
For Dr. Dana McCloskey, heart surgery is powerful. “Cardiac disease is often debilitating. Surgery is truly remarkable and can extend meaningful life years for patients. We see a tangible and immediate difference that has a dramatic impact on their quality of life. It’s profound and very humbling to be able to provide that for my patients,” she says.

Dr. McCloskey treats problems associated with the heart, aorta and lungs, including cancer as well as other diseases within the chest. She has a special interest in aortic disease, including aneurysms and dissections. She is skilled in minimally-invasive techniques, including robotic and endovascular surgery. An economics graduate of New York University, she earned her medical degree at Georgetown University School of Medicine. She trained in general surgery at Cooper University Hospital and completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center. She has authored and co-authored many papers and presentations. She also mentors young physicians and high school students interested in medicine.

Medicine caught her interest at an early age. “I always had an aptitude for science. But the altruistic aspects really drew me to medicine, how doctors help others and their families. It’s scientific, but I get to interact with people every day and help them get through a challenging time in their lives,” she says.

Family is her keystone of care. “I grew up in a big Irish and Italian family. I always ask, how would I want my family members to be treated? I understand how they worry when someone close to them is undergoing surgery. Family is also critical to post-operative progress. I make sure the patient and their loved ones understand the disease process, surgery and what to expect after,” she says.

She is excited to be part of AtlantiCare. “My colleagues are incredible, skilled providers, and they are also good people and fun to be around,” she says. A native of the New York City suburbs, she lives in Camden county with her family. She enjoys needlepoint, reading, exploring Philadelphia and spending time with her family
