The Region’s Only Cardiac Surgery Services
- Nearly every surgical intervention available for heart disease, including innovative options like transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) surgery.
- More than 90 percent of our bypass surgery patients at our Heart & Lung Institute undergo endoscopic vein harvesting, a minimally invasive approach allowing the removal of healthy veins from the legs through one-inch incisions to graft in place of damaged or diseased ones.
- To date, we’ve performed more than 2,300 open heart surgeries; nearly 30,000 cardiac catheterizations; and more than 6,200 specialized procedures in our electrophysiology lab for the treatment of abnormal heart rhythms.
Specialized Emergency Services
- We’re the only hospital in southeastern New Jersey to perform emergency catheterization with angioplasty and/or stent placement to stop a heart attack in progress.
- We have a dedicated cardiology team available 24/7.
- We consistently average a door-to-balloon time—the time between entering an emergency department and having a balloon catheter inserted—within the 90 minute range considered optimal by the American Heart Association.
Sophisticated Treatment for Heart Rhythm Disorders
The Heart & Lung Institute's team of highly specialized electrophysiologists perform a range of procedures to help correct arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation (A-fib). These include:
- Permanent and biventricular pacemaker implantation: Our specialists have implanted thousands of pacemakers with excellent outcomes, and we provide comprehensive pacemaker follow-up services.
- Automated implantable cardioverter defibrillator (AICD) implantation: AICDs are extremely sophisticated devices that function as a pacemaker for heart rates that are too slow and deliver life-saving shocks if the heart rhythm becomes dangerously fast.
- Ablation: Our electrophysiologists use this minimally invasive procedure to treat persistent heart rhythm disturbances, such as atrial fibrillation, that don’t respond to traditional medical treatments.
Specialized Vascular Services
- Our specialists use the latest technology in vascular care, to give patients more precise and less painful treatment than ever before.
- Our board-certified surgeons treat all types of problems with the arteries, veins and circulatory system.
- We frequently use minimally invasive techniques that allow you to go home the same day as your procedure.
