Thank you for scheduling your procedure at the AtlantiCare Surgery Center. We look forward to providing you with high-quality, highly personalized care.

To ensure your experience goes as smoothly as possible, please review these instructions.

Before Surgery

  • Complete the Medical Passport: Please complete our short, pre-surgery questionnaire as soon as possible. Your answers will give our pre-admission nurses and anesthesia department the necessary information about your health and medications so we can provide you with the highest level of care.
  • Do not eat or drink anything after midnight: Unless instructed otherwise by your anesthesiologist, you will need to fast for several hours prior to your procedure.
  • Only bring necessities: Do not bring valuables or wear jewelry. You can bring contacts or glasses (with cases), your insurance card, referrals, driver’s license and any payments due the day of your procedure. Please do not wear any makeup if you're having surgery anywhere on your face, and if you're having surgery on your hand or foot, please do not wear nail polish. Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  • Medications: Please bring a list of your current medications and dosages with you. You may take your morning dose of any heart or blood pressure medication. Also, please note:
    • Diuretics: Do not take diuretics (water pills) on the morning of surgery.
    • Blood thinners: If you are taking Coumadin, aspirin or any other type of blood thinner, please check with your physician before taking these prior to surgery.
    • Insulin or diabetes medications: Do not take diabetes medications or insulin prior to surgery. We will check your blood sugar before your procedure.
    • Inhalers: If you use an inhaler, be sure to bring it with you.

After Surgery

Call the phone number you will be provided with post surgery should you have any concerns after you are discharged. If a problem occurs outside of our normal business hours, please call your physician's office for assistance.

  • Charges: Depending on your insurance coverage, you may have a co-pay due upon arrival.
    • All of the Same-Day Surgery centers charge a fee for use of the operating room, recovery rooms, nursing services, medications and supplies. You will receive separate bills from your surgeon, anesthesiologist and lab (should you require pre-operative tests). You will receive separate bills from your surgeon, anesthesiologist and lab (should you require pre-operative tests).

  • Payment arrangements: We will submit your bill to the insurance company or responsible party you designate when you register for surgery. While our billing team will make every effort to validate your coverage prior to your visit, individual insurance plans vary, so please review your plan for limits. You will be responsible for paying any deductibles, co-payments or charges for non-covered services. We are happy to assist if you need help filling out your insurance forms.

Post-Anesthesia Care

We recommend following these at-home aftercare instructions for 24 hours following general, regional or local anesthesia with sedation. You will be given further instructions specific to your procedure after your surgery. 

  • Diet: Begin with clear liquids and progress to solid foods as they are tolerated. If you have nausea: try to move around less, eat saltine crackers or pretzels and sip drinks like ginger ale. Nausea should subside in about 24 hours.
  • Activity: After your procedure, do not operate a vehicle or sign legal documents for 24 hours. Rest, even if you feel like yourself. Avoid strenuous activities, such as shoveling snow, mowing the lawn or playing sports. Avoid aspirin. Contact your physician regarding any medications you may be taking.
