About Me
For family practice physician Victoria Rose, M.D., medicine is all about building relationships. Dr. Rose joined AtlantiCare Primary Care Plus in June 2019 as a family practice physician in Rio Grande, Cape May County. She has a unique background, having spent years treating the people of the Navajo Nation, at the Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility in Arizona. There, she saw first-hand how developing trust and sincere empathy brings success. "When the patient and doctor connect, we have better outcomes," Dr. Rose explains. "A perfect example, an uncontrolled diabetic, really struggling with blood sugar. Over weeks, we would form a friendship. That's when it tipped over the line and we got good control of the blood sugar. It's all about trust," she says. The experience also sharpened her diagnosis and treatment skills. Since the reservation has few specialists, the primary care physician stays involved when a specialist would be called, in the traditional setting. Dr. Rose managed the complete arc of each patient's needs, start to finish.\nIn community health practice for four years, Dr. Rose has a special interest in women's health, adolescent care and chronic disease management. She is trained in steroid injections of the knee and shoulder as well as trigger point injections. Fascinated with science from an early age, she started her career in pharmaceutical research. But she realized her place was with patients, not behind the scenes. She earned her medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, where she also completed a family medicine residency. She has lectured and published on a variety of family practice topics.\nDr. Rose was Chinle's student and resident coordinator. She has mentored underserved middle school students and volunteered to spend time with children waiting for pediatric care at Jefferson. And she earned an Excellent Physician Award at Jefferson's student-run medical clinic. She is excited to serve the southern New Jersey community at AtlantiCare, where she looks forward to using her skills to guide each patient's individual journey and become a trusted resource for the entire family. "The relationship is what I love,\ngetting to know patients over the long term and making a real difference in their lives," she says.
