About Me
Dr. Sabo understands first-hand the importance of maximizing a patients physical ability. “I ask each patient two questions: what do you need to do, and what do you want to do? Then we move to the next step, with the goal to improve their daily function and ultimately their life,” he explains.
\nDr. Sabo is board-certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He specializes in neck and back problems, both from wear-and-tear and accidental injury. He is experienced in minimally invasive techniques, including 3D-navigation-guided spinal fusion surgery and in specialized care, like spinal cord stimulator implants for long-term pain.
\nA graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts, he earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia. He completed his surgery internship at Albert Einstein Medical Center, Philadelphia and his neurosurgery residency at University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, Illinois. Author of many papers and presentations, he has also worked supporting research to improve spinal stimulator implant technology. “Dad was a surgeon, so I was exposed to medicine at an early age. I always loved science and was particularly interested in movement and how the brain controls the body,” he recalls. That attracted him to neurosurgery and he stayed committed to the discipline throughout his training.
\nDr. Sabo speaks highly of both his AtlantiCare colleagues and those in Philadelphia. “We have extensive expertise here and terrific teamwork. We all jump in to help one another, especially in the trauma center.” He says the neurosurgery service skillfully delivers the best of both worlds. Most problems can be taken care of in south Jersey, close to home — limiting travel and making follow-up care more convenient — but the team also has ready access to Jefferson’s network of experts for even greater specialization.
