About Me

Rachel Grencavich, certified nurse midwife, says a natural interest in biology, child development and nutrition drew her to career in healthcare. “I believe midwifery called to me through life experiences in women’s health, my own and that of friends and family. Pregnancy fascinated me and labor taught me that chaos may create beautiful endings. I never cease to marvel at the miracle of birth,” she says.
\nCombined with encouragement from her elders, her natural sense of empathy drove her to pursue nursing school. She earned her bachelor’s in nursing at Villanova and her master’s in midwifery at University of Pennsylvania. She is board certified by the American Midwifery Certification Board. Over a career of decades in southern New Jersey, she has deep and diverse experience as both a nurse and midwife in a variety of settings. Her expertise spans the entire spectrum of women’s health: gynecology; pregnancy, labor and delivery; surgical care; cancer care and menopause management and mental health.
\nShe’s making her return to AtlantiCare – she worked previously as an OB/GYN nurse at AtlantiCare Medical Center, City Division. “I know I will thrive in the AtlantiCare system with all the resources and trusted colleagues available to my patients and for my own growth. I have built a practice rooted in accountability and honesty and AtlantiCare shares those values,” she says.
\nShe says midwives manage women’s health holistically. “As a midwife, I empower women in birth, create individualized birth plans, collaborate with physicians in surgical care and build community programs to encompass diversity and address health disparities,” she says. That commitment to community also keeps her active with the Southern Jersey Perinatal Cooperative, where she contributes to efforts to improve women’s health throughout the region. “Keeping women healthy has far-reaching ripples in each family and community as a whole,” she says.
