David Collins, MD

Dr. David Collins’ original field of study was psychology. “I realized I’m more practical-minded and became interested in physical health, so I applied to medical school and I’ve never looked back,” he recalls. He fell in love with cardiology during a medical school rotation. Along with preventive cardiology, Dr. Collins manages a wide range of issues, including coronary artery disease and heart attack, valvular heart disease, heart rhythm disorders, heart failure, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
\nDr. Collins is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and in echocardiography by the National Board of Echocardiography. A native of Ireland, he earned his bachelor’s degree at University College Dublin and his medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin. He did his internship in medicine and surgery at St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. In Philadelphia, he completed his internal medicine internship and residency at Pennsylvania Hospital and a cardiovascular disease fellowship at Temple University Hospital.
\nHe has published and presented many papers and articles and has a particular interest in cardiovascular imaging. He has been an active teacher for years and continues to mentor doctors in AtlantiCare’s residency program.
\nHe appreciates being in a specialty where he can make a significant difference in the lives of his patients. “I care a lot about helping people and everything I do is with the goal of making my patients feel better and live longer – moving the needle to reduce long term risk,” he says.
\nHe says AtlantiCare is a terrific place to work. “I am well supported and have a wonderful cohort of patients. Every day is different and it is very exciting,” he says.
