Abeera A Khan, MD

Building long-term relationships with her patients drew Dr. Abeera Khan to endocrinology. “I got very comfortable in endocrinology during my internal medicine residency, when I decided to pursue a fellowship. I enjoy seeing patients over the long term. It’s nice to see positive changes over time,” she says.
\nShe completed the residency at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, and a fellowship in clinical endocrinology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. She earned her M.D. at Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica.
\nShe treats the full range of endocrine problems, including diabetes, thyroid disorders and osteoporosis. In endocrinology, she finds challenge and reward in honing her expertise, seeing patients improve and in the many opportunities she encounters to help her patients do better through education and training. “Endocrinology involves
\nencouraging change to improve outcomes and help people better manage the disease process,” she explains.
\nHer pre-med training was in medical laboratory sciences at University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, where she built a solid foundation in infectious disease, blood analysis and laboratory testing. She also worked in the lab at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.
\nShe spent her early years in Pakistan, moving to the United States with her family as a teenager. After living in other parts of the world, including Massachusetts and the Caribbean, she and her husband, a hospitalist, both served residencies at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. They chose to stay at the New Jersey shore and are putting
\ndown roots in Atlantic County.
\nDr. Khan is fluent in Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi.
