About Me

“I manage my patients the way I would like my family members managed, providing the best care available.”
Devon McKenzie, M.D., works to make people better – and the healthcare system, too.
Dr. McKenzie joined the AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute in August 2019 as a hematologist/oncologist. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine. He is fellowship trained and treats all forms of cancer and disorders of
the blood and bone marrow. In youth, he drew inspiration from tragedy. “I grew up seeing cancer ravage a resource-strapped community, many times in close friends and family members. I believed I could one day make a difference,” he says. That
experience cultivated a true sense of empathy for his patients. He understands the psychological impact of cancer, he has lived it. And that drives him to treat each patient like a member of his own family. He not only helps his patients conquer cancer, he has a keen interest in making the healthcare system better, too – especially for underserved populations. He has advanced training in quality improvement techniques that empower
providers to find and fix problems, streamline care and increase accessibility. “Doctors work every day with a desire to grow and be better. But even with all the right services, patient care can suffer if the system is inefficient or not structured properly. An efficient and functional system without waste benefits everybody,” he says. He became active in quality management as a resident, at NYU-affiliated Woodhull Medical and Mental
Health Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, the Caribbean. He completed his hematology-oncology fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn. Dr. McKenzie is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of
Hematology. He serves as a mentor to many and is actively involved in charitable organizations that help at-risk youth.
