Gabriela Andries, MD

An experience in critical care was life-changing, as much for Gabriela Andries, MD, as for the patient who unknowingly guided the young doctor to her specialty. Andries was in her residency and had not yet chosen a career path when a new patient came to the unit. A seemingly healthy man, he had collapsed on the soccer field. He’d had a heart attack. “He came in near death and three days later, we sent him home to his family, alive and well like nothing had happened,” she says. “He even went back to playing soccer.” Andries is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She did her cardiology fellowship at Rutgers Health/Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, New Jersey. She earned her medical degree at Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta, Indonesia and completed her internal medicine residency at NYMC-Westchester Medical Center, Valhalla, New York. She delivers comprehensive heart care—screening, diagnosis, prevention and disease management. She finds the technical challenges of internal medicine and cardiology very rewarding. “With so many organs interacting, it’s like a puzzle, figuring out what’s going on with each patient,” she says. “And I really love interacting with my patients, developing trust. I don’t tell them what to do, I help them make informed decisions. The more involved they are in their care, the better they do. And when someone says thank you or I bring a smile to their face, that’s a really good day.” Andries says she was drawn to AtlantiCare for the caliber of its medical staff, its friendly and inviting professional climate and its seashore location.
