Having used robotics as a surgeon, Gregory Tillou, M.D., knew its value. But he didn’t truly appreciate it until he was a patient himself.
\nA bout with diverticulitis required surgery, so Tillou experienced what his patients do. He was out of the hospital after two days. Within three weeks he was back to full activity. And, he required no narcotics to manage pain.
\n"Having experienced it firsthand," Tillou says, "I recommend it for every patient who is a candidate."
\nNow Tillou is bringing his skills and expertise to AtlantiCare Physicians Group, Surgical Services. As a general surgeon, Tillou performs a variety of procedures, including appendectomies and hernia repairs, using laparoscopic and robotic techniques.
\nTillou received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed his residency in general surgery at Albany Medical Center, where he served as chief resident. Though accomplished at laparoscopic procedures, he explored robotics to positively impact his patients’ lives.
\n"At first I was fairly skeptical. Then I sat down and did a trial of the machine," Tillou says. "It was amazing what it could do, the visualization with its 3-D camera, the dexterity with the instruments. It just seemed to be a safer, better way to do things."

\nIn his spare time, Tillou enjoys being with his family and staying active. A lifelong soccer fan and player, he follows Chelsea in the English Premier League. He and his two young sons black belts in Tae Kwan Do. He also enjoys water sports and listens to music.
