About Me

As a teenager, Maureen Gottfried, DO, saw how dementia impacted not only her grandfather’s health but the ripple
\neffects it had on the entire family. Coupled with her studies with Dr. Michael Sirdofsky at Georgetown University, it
\ninspired her to pursue a career in neuromuscular neurology and make a difference in the lives of others.

\n\n

As a member of the AtlantiCare Physician Group Neurology team, Gottfried is committed to helping her patients
\nachieve understanding while developing care plans designed to maximize their quality of life.

\n\n

“Neurology is like solving a puzzle,” she says. “It is a specialty where many times diagnoses are made not based on
\ntesting but by a one-on-one exam and a patient’s clinical history. Taking time to listen to their story allows me to
\nunderstand their unique experience and develop possible solutions.”

\n\n

Gottfried earned her doctor of osteopathic medicine at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her
\ninternal medicine residency at Atlantic City Medical Center and then her neurology residency and a fellowship in clinical
\nneurophysiology with an emphasis in neuromuscular disease at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

\n\n

“My patients and their families want answers to their symptoms, and I am motivated by figuring out their cause and
\nbeginning treatment,” Gottfried says. “Listening and empathy are most important in neurologic care, so I listen and try to
\nunderstand what they are experiencing.”

\n\n

Gottfried is board certified in neurology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She also holds a certificate of
\nadded qualifications in Clinical Neurophysiology by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as well as boarding in
\nelectrodiagnostic medicine by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
