Nancy C Higgins, MD

Dr. Nancy Higgins says she wanted to become a doctor as far back as she can remember. “I never wanted to do anything else, really,” she says. “My mom used to watch a lot of doctor shows on TV. Maybe that’s where it started.” A strong interest in intensive care pushed her towards pulmonary medicine. Pulmonologists play a key role in getting critical patients past crisis in the ICU.
\nDr. Higgins helps people with a variety of respiratory conditions, like COPD, asthma, emphysema, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension and cancer.
\nShe is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonology, critical care and sleep disorders medicine. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, she earned her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She completed her internal medicine residency at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. She completed a fellowship in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia. She has served as director of AtlantiCare’s Respiratory Therapy Department, co-director of the ICU and co-director of Atlantic Sleep Health Diagnostic Associates in Galloway Township.
\nShe says she’s driven by nature and will do whatever it takes to help her patients feel better. “When we get to the bottom of a problem and the patient feels better, that’s success,” she says. She said training in Philadelphia exposed her to AtlantiCare and she liked the idea of living by the seashore. “Plus, it’s a real team environment. We work well together and everybody here puts the patient first,” she says.
