About Me
A world-recognized leader in maternal-fetal health, Dr. Shailini Singh has dedicated her career to protecting the lives of pregnant women and their unborn children. Her focus is managing maternal metabolic syndrome to prevent complications like preeclampsia and premature delivery.
She is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and maternal fetal medicine by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada.
Dr. Singh earned her medical degree at Lady Harding Medical College, Delhi, India. She completed her first maternal-fetal medicine fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a second fellowship in fetal physiology at University of Colorado, Aurora. Her internship and general surgery training was at University of Alberta Hospital, Canada. She served her OB/GYN residency at Foothills Hospital, University of Calgary, Canada. She has authored and co-authored many papers in her specialty. She speaks Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.
Before joining AtlantiCare, she worked in Massachusetts, Colorado, New Jersey, New York, Washington, D.C., India, France and Saudi Arabia. She has worked with many universities, setting up diabetes centers for the unique needs of pregnant women.
She was awarded two Senior Fulbright research scientist awards. “Through this work, I met the late professor David Barker, who influenced my scientific approach to diabetes, hypertension, obesity, hyperlipidemia and fetal programming. If we control fetal growth in utero, we can prevent child obesity and maternal complications,” she says. She has also volunteered to train young physicians in the field.
She is particularly passionate about working with patients from minority and underserved populations. “Every nationality has a unique ethnic diet. I enjoy the challenge of helping them tailor food choices to better manage diabetes,” she says.
diabetes,” she says. She says her father was her career inspiration – her sister is also a doctor. “In India, many women are dependent on men. He wanted us to consider medicine, a career that would enable us to help others and be independent,” she recalls.
