Tejal Patel, APN-C, is passionate about removing barriers to healthcare. “I have always worked with underserved populations. AtlantiCare’s mission and values were driving factors in my career, how well we take care of the community,” he says. Part of the AtlantiCare family since 2015, Tejal spends most of his working hours at AtlantiCare’s Federally Qualified Health Center in Atlantic City.
Tejal is board-certified in adult gerontology primary care by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Heearned his master’s degree in nursing at Stockton University, Pomona, where he also received a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology. He completed his bachelor’s in nursing at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Newark – today’s Rutgers School of Biomedical and Health Sciences. He is fluent in Gujarati.
He says seeing health care professionals at work inspired him as a young man. He worked as a pharmacy tech, but had a strong desire to provide more direct care. “I wanted to be more hands on to make a meaningful impact, improving people’s health and well-being,” he says.
That’s how he landed in primary care nursing. “In primary care, we’re on the front line. We work to prevent negative health outcomes, promote better health and prevent disease,” he says. Tejal says the work is gratifying, especially developing personal relationships with his patients.
“We’re really building a partnership. We work together towards mutual health goals, using whatever resources we have to help our patients live better lives. And they really appreciate what we do,” he says.
