Jessie Clairvil, DO

Born in Haiti, Jessie Clairvil was 8 when she came to America. Her family settled in a large immigrant community in Essex County, NJ, where everyone felt like family and she soon developed a reputation for helping others. Because, by the time she was 11 or 12, she says, “I was the kid people took to the doctors’ office to interpret for them.”
\nWhat she experienced helping others she channeled into her own career in health care. As an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist with AtlantiCare Physician Group, Clairvil uses the lessons from her childhood along with more than 15 years of experience to guide her approach to care. “There were a lot of positive interactions between patients and providers, but also some negative,” she says. “It was the negative ones that made me say, ‘I don’t want to be like this as a provider.’”
\nClairvil received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey, and her medical degree from Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens, Ohio. She completed an internship in internal medicine, general surgery followed by a residency in otolaryngology / facial plastic surgery at St. Barnabas Health System. In her practice, she cares for all ages to address their ENT needs. For children, that might include issues with the tonsils, sleep apnea, adenoids and recurrent middle ear infections. In adults, she treats allergies, sinus management and the diagnosis of head and neck cancers.
\nIn addressing such sensitive topics, Clairvil believes in building a shared experience where patients can trust she is doing right by them while learning what they need to know to make informed decisions. “I strive to provide comprehensive, individualized, patient-centered care,” she says. “The goal is to be a partner with the patient in order for them to understand not only their conditions but also what my recommendations are to create an effective care plan.”
