Elsa Sleiman, MD

The first doctor in her family, Elsa Sleiman wanted to pursue a career in medicine from an early age. “I had a lot of family members that suffered from cardiovascular disease. I decided to do something that can help make a difference for people like them,” she says.

Dr. Sleiman is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is also board certified in echocardiography, nuclear cardiology and is trained in peripheral vascular disease interpretation.

She completed a cardiology fellowship at the University of Arizona. She earned both her biology and her medical degree from American University of Beirut. Her internal medicine residency was in New York City.

She also served as a post-doctorate research fellow at American University of Beirut. She has authored and co-authored a variety of papers, posters and presentations. She is fluent in English, French and Arabic.

She is trained to diagnose cardiovascular problems that affect the heart, its valves and the vessels by performing transesophageal echocardiograms. She also interprets stress tests, echocardiography and vascular studies to assess peripheral and carotid arterial disease. She has a special interest in women’s cardiovascular health.

Dr. Sleiman prides herself in working collaboratively with her patients. “I am a big believer in shared decision making. There are so many ways to approach cardiovascular problems, with prevention and treatment plans. I spend a lot of time ensuring that my patients fully understand their options and together we make the best decision for their care,” she says.

She has many family members throughout the east coast and loves being near the beach, so AtlantiCare caught her attention after her Arizona fellowship. “It’s a wonderful work environment. Everyone here is so helpful and nice,” she says.
