About Me

Dr. Frances Loftus gives her Italian mother a lot of credit for her career. “When I was four, I announced that I wanted to be a nurse,” she recalls. “Mom said, ‘Why not a doctor?’ I was skeptical. ‘I’m a girl - can I do that?’ I asked. And she told me that girls can be doctors - I could be anything I wanted,” she says.
\nShe is board-certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care by the American Board of Internal Medicine. She is a fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians. After her undergraduate degree at Columbia University, New York, she earned her medical degree at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, Old Westbury, New York. She did her residency and her fellowship in pulmonary critical care at Cooper Hospital University Medical Center, Camden, N.J.
\nDr. Loftus treats people with a variety of breathing disorders, including asthma, COPD, lung cancer and many others. She also works in the intensive care unit, where she previously served as director. “I get a lot satisfaction helping guide the family through what can be a very difficult process,” she says.
\nShe also appreciates AtlantiCare’s collegial atmosphere and the opportunity to teach young doctors. She was named Teacher of the Year in 2021. “The residents inspire me to be better. I want them to love their job as much as I love mine. As their teacher, I help them find their strengths. We’re a team, with the patient at the center. I want my team to win!” she says.
\nA native New Yorker, she moved to southern New Jersey for her graduate training at Cooper. She lives in Hammonton with her family and stays very busy helping the kids with school and sports. They also enjoy skiing, watersports and getting outside as a family.
