The audiologist is uniquely qualified to diagnose and treat hearing disorders,” says Dr. Janet Revelle. “We don’t treat medical problems, but develop treatment solutions for improving hearing, listening and lifestyle needs. Dr. Revelle is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology. A graduate of Clarion State College, Clarion, Pa., she also holds a master’s in audiology from Kent State University in Ohio and earned her doctor of audiology from Pennsylvania College of Optometry and Audiology, Elkins Park, Pa.
\nAlways attracted to a career in healthcare, audiology caught her interest while researching colleges. “I absolutely fell in love with it, learning the instrumentation, physics of sound and technology. Every patient is unique, it’s like putting puzzle pieces together to find what works best for each individual,” she says. She says everyone should visit an audiologist, at least for baseline testing to identify potential issues that may indicate other problems. “When communication is difficult, people tend to withdraw from their families, friends and favorite activities. Worse, without intervention, it can even lead to bigger problems, including language delays in children and changes in brain health and cognitive decline in adults,” she explains.
\nDr. Revelle also treats tinnitus, balance issues, vertigo and auditory processing disorders. “Many people have been told that nothing can be done. But something can always be tried. The technology has improved a million-fold,” she says. She likes getting to know her patients. “I have successful adult patients I first saw as infants. We establish long-term relationships and the solutions we provide are instrumental in their life journey. It’s very rewarding,” she says.
