About Me

“Helping others is my reason to be – giving my patients and their families hope, getting to know them, their fears, their joys, becoming part of the family and making a difference. This drives me and makes me happy, every day.”

In a life dedicated to healing, Valmarie Ramos, M.D., finds joy. Dr. Ramos joined the AtlantiCare Cancer Care Institute in July 2019. She is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine. She is fellowship trained and treats all forms of cancer with a special interest in breast cancer, lymphoma and benign/malignant hematology. She is fluent in Spanish. The daughter of a registered nurse, she learned the privilege of medicine from her mother’s example. “She dedicated her life to sharing love and kindness. I understood early on that helping others wasn’t just what I wanted to do, but who
I was – my reason to be,” Dr. Ramos says. The values her mother instilled led to a career path in oncology. “In med school, I saw firsthand the need for love and compassion in cancer patients, inspiring a commitment to make things better for them,” she says.
Dr. Ramos attended Universidad Autonoma of Guadalajara Medical School and completed her medical education at Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico. She gained important hands-on experience during her internship and residency at Dr. Ramon E. Betances Hospital–Mayaguez Medical Center. She did a year of oncology research at the University of Puerto Rico, where she also earned her bachelor’s in sciences with honors, completed a hematology/oncology fellowship and served on the faculty.
Dr. Ramos is in demand speaking and presenting clinical topics and has made many television appearances. She volunteers her time for organizations fighting hunger and improving education. A former professional ballet dancer, she remains a strong proponent of the arts. More than anything, she cherishes the opportunity medicine brings to make a real difference. “Every day, I help others. I learn something new. I meet awesome people and get to be a part of their lives and health journey. As long as I am able to make a difference in the lives of others, my one life is worth every breath,” she says.
