About Me
Service to others is central to cardiologist John Hamaty’s view of medicine, a perspective developed growing up in small town Pennsylvania.
“It was an all for one attitude. Someone would say, ‘I need help’ and you never thought twice about lending a hand,” he says. “You help where you can, and medicine is built for that.”
Hamaty emphasizes education and partnerships to promote better health with his patients and their families. If family members are not partners in the care plan, patients won’t do as well. They rely on the support and guidance of family to achieve better outcomes. He works with each patient to create an individualized plan of care to give the patient ownership over their well-being.
Hamaty earned his Bachelor’s degree in Biology at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He received his doctorate in osteopathic medicine at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing a rotating internship at Metropolitan Hospital – Central Division in Philadelphia as Chief Intern, Hamaty did a residency in internal medicine at John F. Kennedy Health System in Stratford, New Jersey. He then completed his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia where he was named Chief Fellow. He has been practicing cardiology in southern New Jersey for more than 30 years.
Hamaty is a Professor of Medicine and longtime faculty member at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine, an experience that makes him better equipped to work with and teach his patients.
“When you are able to give patients and family members the tools to help their loved ones live longer that makes an impact,” he says. “My job is to find a way to get people to understand how to change their lives. I’ve been blessed to have been given the opportunity to do that.”
