About Me

Dr. Lau specializes in surgery of the liver, pancreas and bile duct. He brings world-class surgery skills to AtlantiCare, working with the oncology team to plan and perform life-saving cancer surgery. “Surgery really helps people in a very direct way,” he says. “You see immediate improvement in your patient’s quality of life. That’s what drew me to the specialty. I also enjoy the complexity of surgery and the fast pace of the operating room,” he says.
\nTrained in robotic surgery, Dr. Lau is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and fellowship trained in multi organ transplantation which was completed at University of California, Los Angeles. He also completed a fellowship in hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, Charlotte, N.C.
\nA summa cum laude graduate of The University at Buffalo in New York State, Dr. Lau earned his medical degree from Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, N.Y., where he also completed his residency in general surgery. Before joining AtlantiCare, he was Associate Professor of Surgery at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, where he was active in teaching physicians in training. He also performed surgery at Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia. He has authored or co-authored many papers, presentations and textbook chapters. His area of research interest is predicting surgical outcomes using databases.
\nAlways passionate about helping others, medicine was a natural career choice. Surgery caught his interest during his education. “I like the challenge, especially when my patient has comorbidities. Achieving good outcome is paramount, our number one priority. That’s achieved by doing quality teamwork that treats the disease and keeps the patient safe,” he says.
