About Me
Mary Jean “M.J.” Redmond’s career has been a case study in going above and beyond, finding new ways to learn,
grow and master the art and science of medicine. As an oncology nurse practitioner, she never loses sight of the priority– providing her patients the best and most up-to date care possible.
With nearly three decades of experience, M.J. has worked in gastroenterology, critical care, emergency care, oncology, home health and hospice. She started nursing training as an aide and licensed practical nurse and has never stopped studying. She began training at Suffolk Community College, Long Island, N.Y. She completed her bachelor’s at Rowan University in 2014, where she earned her advanced practice master’s in 2018. She is board certified in adult gerontology acute care by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Her career inspiration came in a flash of clarity, at the hands of her mother-in-law, an RN. “I was newly married and
didn’t really know what I wanted to do with my life. I was attending church with my husband and his family. One day,
a lady passed out in church, she’d had a heart attack. I witnessed my mother-in-law leap into action and do everything
possible to help. That was the moment I decided – I want to do that,” she recalls.
Cancer care is where she feels most called. “Cancer has such a stigma, sometimes I wish we could call it something less
scary. Like any disease, it can be managed. The right care can lift the spirit and give the body a chance to heal. Cancer
patients are warriors, the reason I have to make the best of every work day,” she says.
