About Me
Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery with his Certificate of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine, Dr. Pepe specializes in sports medicine with a special interest in shoulder, knee, and elbow reconstruction.
Although his area of expertise is advanced surgery, he works carefully to explore non-surgical options when appropriate, including exercise to strengthen muscles that support the joints and leading-edge injection therapies. “Athletes are participating in sports into more advanced ages and joint preserving surgeries, including osteotomies and cartilage restoration procedures, as well as therapy and injections can allow them to continue to do so. Joint replacements, although very effective at restoring range of motion and relieving pain, are not compatible with high level athletics.” A cum laude graduate of Boston College, he earned his M.D. from Georgetown University School of Medicine, Washington, D.C. He completed his general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at University of Pennsylvania, where he also studied shoulder reconstruction in Penn’s McKay Laboratory. He completed a traveling shoulder fellowship at University of Zurich, Switzerland and a sports medicine and shoulder surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh. Through his affiliation with the Rothman Institute, Philadelphia, he is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, where he is involved in peer-reviewed research on a variety of topics in orthopaedic surgery and athletic injury. He is an in-demand speaker at meetings and conferences around the world and has authored and co-authored many publications and book chapters. Dr. Pepe is Head Orthopedic Surgeon for the Philadelphia Eagles and a team physician for Stockton University. He previously served as a team physician for the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Penguins and the University of Pittsburgh football and men’s basketball programs. He has been named a Philadelphia Magazine “Top Doc” on many occasions.
Dr. Pepe lives in Linwood with his wife Carolyn and three children. When not in the operating room, he enjoys working out, golfing, cooking and spending time with his family.
