Sonia Kamal, MD

Sonia Kamal has always found the human body fascinating. As a primary care provider for AtlantiCare Physician Group, Primary Care Plus in Northfield, she is able to harness that curiosity to help patients take control of their health. “Health is so dynamic from one person to the next,” she says. “The same disease can present different ways with different symptoms and outcomes for two people, and I enjoy being able to help patients understand and manage their health.”

Kamal earned her Bachelor of science degree in biochemistry with honors at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. She received her medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine in Saba, Dutch Caribbean. She completed her residency in internal medicine at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center in St. Louis, Missouri. She is fluent in Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi.

Kamal uses her own lifelong love for learning to inspire patients to learn more about their own health. Whether it is diabetes, heart disease or any other condition, she views her role as a provider as one of continual support and encouragement. She recognizes that by addressing health concerns, her patients can increase their energy levels and make changes to other aspects of their lives. It is extremely gratifying to her as a provider.

“From when I see them on day one to several months later, the changes reflected on their health and lives are inspiring,” Kamal says. “I don’t think of it as I did anything. I think of it as I am able to support my patients as they are able to achieve better health and it’s amazing. To be a part of somebody’s journey is a great feeling.”
