About Me
Teresa Pincus brings 15 years’ physician assistant experience to AtlantiCare Primary Care. As a primary care PA, she treats short-term problems, like colds, fever, sore throats and minor injuries. She also gets to help people with long-term conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes. “It’s a little bit of everything. I really like the continuity of care. I help people from teenage years to senior citizens and really get to know them,” she says.
\nShe started her healthcare career as an EMT, an emergency medical technician. “I really enjoyed the work, helping people in a very vulnerable moment,” Teresa recalls. “But I often wondered what happened to them after they left the emergency room,” she says. She realized she was interested in taking care of people throughout their lives – rather than just in one day in the ER. That’s when she decided to go back to school to become a PA. Board-certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, Teresa earned her master’s and PA certification at Drexel University, Philadelphia. She holds a biology degree from Washington College, Chestertown, Md., where she graduated cum laude.
\nPrior to joining AtlantiCare, she worked for UniteHere Health in Atlantic City, the healthcare arm of the casino workers’ union. She also has experience in urgent care and infectious diseases, where she was part of a research team investigating new vaccinations, HIV medications and IV antibiotics. Teresa says the inner workings of human physiology fascinated her from an early age. That and a life-long interest in science drew her to a career in healthcare. “I find the human body truly amazing – all the things it can do and how it self-regulates. I was always passionate about that. And working in healthcare is a great way of giving back,” she says.
