About Breast Cancer
Breast cancer begins in the breast tissue, which is comprised of glands used for milk production (called lobules) and ducts that connect these lobules to the nipple. The remainder of the breast is made up of fatty, connective and lymphatic tissue. Except for skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women.
Prevention & Early Detection
If you are 40 or older, getting an annual screening mammogram& is your best weapon against breast cancer. Mammography has proven to be the most effective tool for detecting breast cancer early, when it’s most treatable. AtlantiCare offers all-digital mammography, producing images that can be magnified to pinpoint specific areas of concern. We also specialize in 3D mammography (tomosynthesis) to detect even the smallest tumors, especially in patients with dense breast tissue.
Personalized Treatment Plans
Many breast lumps turn out to be noncancerous, but if you’re diagnosed, rest assured you have some of New Jersey’s best experts in your corner. These specialists work closely together and with you to create a tailor-made breast cancer treatment plan, which may include advanced surgical, radiation and/or medical therapies.
