Breathe easier, thanks to better care.

Pulmonology is the care and treatment of your lungs and respiratory system. That means things as simple as snoring or as critical as cancer — and everything in between. In multidisciplinary collaboration with other departments and specialties across AtlantiCare, our highly trained team of pulmonologists uses advanced diagnostics and techniques to treat both chronic and acute conditions. Those include:

  • Asthma
  • Lung cancer
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Interstitial lung disease and pulmonary fibrosis
  • Narcolepsy
  • Chronic cough
  • Foreign bodies
  • Pneumonia
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
  • Emphysema
  • Diseases caused by exposure to toxic substances
  • Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome
  • Chronic insomnia
  • Dyspneashortness of breath
  • Sleep apnea and sleep disorders
  • Other respiratory conditions

Our lung and respiratory treatments.

Each patient’s condition is different, and the impact on their quality of life can vary drastically. From trouble sleeping to trouble breathing to coughs and even pain, conditions of the lungs manifest in many ways. We find the underlying causes of your symptoms and create a personalized, well-rounded treatment plan to help you breathe easier.

We offer the following tests to help identify pulmonary issues:

Pulmonary Function Test (PFT): A breathing test that measures how well the lungs expand and function. Requires preparation.

Arterial Blood Gas (ABG): A blood test usually taken from the artery in the wrist,  measuring the blood oxygen, carbon dioxide bicarbonate and pH of the body. No preparation is needed.

Spirometry: A breathing test that measures how well air flows in and out of the lungs. Requires preparation.

Six-Minute Walk Test: An exercise test done with a pulse ox clip on the finger to detect oxygen levels during activity. No preparation is needed.

Bronchoscopy: A procedure in which a flexible fiberoptic tube with photo capability is passed through the mouth or nose to the wind pipe and lungs to examine the airways internally. This is done under intravenous sedation, to look for cancer, blockages or infections. Requires preparation and done in the hospital.
