Garden Description: Community Garden located in the First Ward of Atlantic City. 20 beds available. Beds rented by area residents and businesses. A few beds of the garden are maintained by the Lighthouse staff for educational purposes.

Atlantic City Day Nursery Garden

Garden Description: Garden is grown by ACDN preschool students and staff. Garden yield is incorporated into food served at ACDN and into the curriculum. The garden is located in Ward 5 of Atlantic City.

Hope Community Garden

Address: Shore Park Apartments, Atlantic City Housing Authority, 912 Mediterranean Avenue, Atlantic City

Garden Description: Garden tended by AC Housing Residents. Residents enjoy 3 seasons of harvest. The Rutgers Master Gardeners support this garden. Participants enjoy monthly activities at the garden which teach organic gardening techniques, and healthy food preparation skills. This garden is located in Ward 2 of Atlantic City.

Jewish Family Service Community Garden

Garden Description: Garden to be relocated in 2014 to new site in Pleasantville. Garden cared for and used by JFS clients. The garden introduces nutrition lessons and improves the foods being served to the JFS case management clients.

COMMUNITY HARVESTERS CHURCH Community Garden

Garden Description: Garden located on site of “Community Harvesters Church”. Pastor Smith and congregants tend the community garden. Garden Harvest is shared with residents of New York Tower Hi-Rise who have limited income and mobility as part of monthly food pantry distribution. Garden programming and healthy eating demonstrations also take place at pantry distributions. Summer youth programming began in 2013 to expand the work of this congregation’s garden. This garden is located in Ward 3 of Atlantic City.

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Youth Ministry

Garden Description: Garden consists of several raised beds which are maintained by the members of St. Mary’s Youth Ministry. Programming and outreach efforts have originated from this garden, and encourage healthier choices and lifestyle practices for area students.

Garden Description: Garden is constructed on City-owned property that has been made available for youth programming.

Salvation Army Garden

Garden Description: Garden comprised of many raised beds located on the lot owned by the Salvation Army, Atlantic City. Salvation Army clients and volunteers maintain the garden beds and are able to take home the fruits of their labor. In 2013, AtlantiCare Growing Green provide youth programming to this agency introducing nutrition and healthy food preparation concepts to the Salvation Army’s summer camp participants.

Hamilton Memorial Community Garden

Address: Hamilton Memorial United Methodist Church, 609 Arctic Avenue (corner of Arctic and Connecticut Avenue), Atlantic City, NJ

Garden Description: The community garden and playground are open to the public daily. Gardeners meet on Wednesday at the garden for harvesting of crops, garden bed maintenance and healthy living centered programming. Community Garden interns from Stockton University are onsite to help gardeners navigate the raised beds.

Pleasantville Housing Authority Community Garden

Address: 140 North Main Street, Pleasantville, NJ

Garden Description: Garden is open to residents of the Pleasantville Housing Authority. The garden provides the opportunity for residents to grow their own fresh produce despite living in an apartment building. Gardeners meet weekly to maintain the beds, harvest produce and partake in cheerful garden talk.

Egg Harbor Township Historical Society Community Garden  

Address: 6647 West Jersey Avenue, Egg Harbor Township, NJ

Garden Description: The Egg Harbor Township Historical Society Community Garden is open to the public. A $25 seasonal donation will rent one of 10 full sized plots, approx. size 10’x20′. In addition there are two smaller wheel chair accessible raised beds for those gardeners in need.

Free To Be Children’s Garden at the Stockton University

Garden Description: The Children’s Garden at Free to Be Child Care Center engages the children in the natural world and also introduces children to food variety in their diets and provides basic nutrition education. Children are hands on in the garden supported by staff, family and the community.
