Brian D Mancke, MD

Brian Mancke was doing cancer epidemiology research at the University of Pennsylvania when he decided to volunteer in the hospital. Exposed to real-word caregiving, he knew what he would do for a career. "When you see the clinical environment and what it is, you either get interested in it or you don't," says Mancke, a family medicine specialist at AtlantiCare Primary Care Plus in Galloway. "I got interested." Mancke earned his medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York, and a master's degree in public health at Boston University. After completing an internship in pediatrics at Los Angeles County (California) Hospital, he did is residency in family medicine at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore. Mancke did fellowships in hospital medicine at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, Indiana, and in urgent care at CityMD Urgent Care

in New York City. This depth of experience has prepared him well for the dynamic environment of primary care. "When doing broad-spectrum family medicine, we really see everybody," he says. "It is an opportunity to do adult medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics and to care for any patient of any age in many clinical scenarios." Mancke's background in public health- "It forces you to think about the health of the community as a whole," he says - informs his approach to care. He enjoys working with individuals to develop the care plan that is best for them. This begins with a foundation of trust and communication.

"You can't be an advocate for their health if there's not trust or a good relationship," he says.

When not caring for patients, Mancke enjoys an active lifestyle. In addition to running and playing hockey, he and his wife like to explore state parks.
