About Me
For Cristian J. Barrios, M.D., good medicine is about treating the whole person.
\nDr. Barrios joined AtlantiCare Primary Care Plus in August 2019 as an internist. He is experienced managing problems of all major organ systems of the body, with a special interest in sports medicine and preventive care. He speaks Spanish.
\nDr. Barrios earned a bachelor’s in health and societies at University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, Camden. He completed his internal medicine residency at Cooper University Hospital. His experience includes working with dementia patients and their families at Penn Memory
\nCenter in Philadelphia. He also volunteered to help homeless veterans during medical school.
\nThroughout, he always put connecting first. “I was drawn to the intellectual aspect of internal medicine, solving difficult problems,” Dr. Barrios explains. “But I have realized it’s much more than that. It’s listening, connecting and building relationships. I get to know many different people, while making a positive impact in their lives. It is a real privilege and truly inspiring.” he says.
\nHis whole-patient approach also leads to improved outcomes. The patient who trusts the doctor is more involved and more likely to follow medical advice. “I am driven by the trust my patients place in me. Going to see the doctor can make us vulnerable and nervous. I take my responsibility very seriously. It motivates me to do everything I can to advocate for my patients, in every situation,” he says.
\nHe is excited to join AtlantiCare, where his wife Danielle is a pediatric physician assistant. “AtlantiCare is committed to patient-centered care. The team is working hard to make sure patients are not only treated, but cared for. This really resonates with me,” he said.
\n
\nHe and Danielle are also active volunteers, working to help homeless and neglected bulldogs at Long Island
