About Me
Lishai Crear knew she wanted to become a nurse after seeing the experiences of friends and family in the hospital. “I didn’t really understand the philosophy of nursing until I observed it first-hand. A light bulb went on and I knew this is where I needed to be,” she says. Once she set that goal, she worked her way up the ladder from personal care assistant to bedside nurse to nurse practitioner – all at AtlantiCare.
\nShe is board-certified as a family nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Lishai earned her bachelor’s and master’s in nursing from Stockton University, Pomona, New Jersey. She has been part of the AtlantiCare family for over a decade. Lishai developed a passion for cardiology as a bedside nurse. Heart disease is the number one killer of men, women and people of most races and ethnicities. Watching her own grandmother’s journey with heart disease solidified her career path. “The heart is the powerhouse of the body. When it works, it’s great. But when it doesn’t, everything is affected,” she says.
\nLishai’s goal is to keep patients out of the hospital, through prevention and education. “I take the time to get to know each patient, develop a relationship and form a bond of communication. I want to learn their health goals, develop a holistic plan for preventive care and work toward each patient’s definition of wellness,” she explains.
\nOne long-term goal is to contribute to the understanding of specifically how heart disease affects women. She appreciates a similar commitment from her colleagues. “I love working at AtlantiCare. I love the inclusivity, teamwork and mutual respect among professionals. We all bring a unique perspective but share the common goal of doing what is best for each patient.”
