About Me
Every weight loss journey is unique, and Samir Patel, MD, is committed to helping his patients find the path that is best for them. “Losing excess weight is a challenge, and may seem overwhelming,” he says. “When I can help patients achieve their goals and improve their health it shows them anything is possible.”
\nBorn and raised in New York City, Patel attended the Bronx High School of Science and graduated from Cornell University with a degree in biochemistry. He studied medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he graduated with honors, and did his residency in general surgery at State University of New York. Patel completed a fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopy and Bariatric Surgery at Staten Island University Hospital, studying under world-renowned laparoscopic surgeon George Ferzli, MD.
\nPatel is passionate about helping patients who are looking for alternative options to weight loss, providing personalized care in the medical management of obesity. He believes in a multidisciplinary approach to weight loss and maintenance, including: behavior and lifestyle modification; diet, nutrition and metabolism; exercise options and pharmacotherapy. “I don’t ask any of my patients to do anything I wouldn’t do myself,” he says. “The goal is to develop a plan that is realistic and manageable to achieve results.”
\nIn 2022, Patel started the AtlantiCare Center for Heartburn, the only facility in New Jersey that is able to completely evaluate and customize a medical or robotic surgical treatment plan for acid reflux / gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Using state-of-the-art technology he can customize surgery to an individual’s unique anatomy correcting symptoms of acid reflux. Proper treatment can lead to the complete resolution of acid reflux symptoms and the regression of Barrett’s Esophagus, decreasing overall risk of cancer.
