By The Numbers

Behind every number is a patient, which is why we strive to deliver the best possible stroke care for our community.  Here is how AtlantiCare’s Comprehensive Stroke Center performed in 2022:

Total Number of Stroke patients treated at AtlantiCare:

  • Ischemic Stroke (Blood Clot in the Brain): 633
  • Hemorrhagic Stroke (Bleeding in the Brain): 131

Our experienced team diagnoses, prevents and treats stroke with clot-busting medications and advanced minimally invasive technology. We continually focus on decreasing time to treatment for stroke patients, as improving access to emergency medical treatments of stroke improves patient outcomes and saves viable brain tissue.

  • Number of Patients treated with IV thrombolytics (clot-busting medication): 93
  • Number of Patients treated with mechanical thrombectomy (blood clot removal): 74
  • Number of aneurysms treated at AtlantiCare: 22
  • Percent of patients that AtlantiCare provides the highest quality of care by meeting all Stroke Quality Measures: 98.3%

The table below shows infection, stroke, and death rates for common neurosurgical procedures performed at AtlantiCare. The first three rows are procedures that look at and/or treat the vessels supplying the brain in the head and neck. The last row is a procedure that can assist with drainage of excess fluid around the brain.

The table below shows symptomatic bleeding rates for patients who receive emergent treatment for a stroke caused by a blood clot. Each treatment type, thrombolytics (clot busting medication) and mechanical thrombectomy (clot removal surgery) has a risk of bleeding associated with the treatment. However, this risk can be minimized through proper selection criteria, technique, and monitoring.
