Breast Health is Women’s Health.

Breast Health is Women’s Health

As you age, your breasts change—and it’s important to take care of them throughout your life.

Both hormones and medications alike can cause breast abnormalities like lumps, bumps and discharges. Regular self-exams and mammograms can help you detect these changes early to stay on top of your breast health.

Should you find something concerning, AtlantiCare’s breast care program offers a full range of services, from prevention and screening through diagnosis and treatment.

Breast health and breast cancer

Changes or new symptoms do not necessarily mean you have breast cancer. In fact there are more common breast changes that aren’t cancer, than ones that are, including:

  • Fibrocystic breast changes - lumpiness, thickening and swelling, often just before a woman's period
  • Cysts - fluid-filled lumps
  • Fibroadenomas - solid, round, rubbery lumps that move easily when pushed, occurring most in younger women
  • Intraductal papillomas - growths similar to warts near the nipple
  • Blocked milk ducts
  • Milk production when a woman is not breastfeeding
