How we care for your heart.

Evaluation.

We start with a careful review of your medical history to develop a specialized treatment plan. Factors such as high blood pressure, high LDL cholesterol, diabetes or a history of kidney disease can elevate your level of risk. If necessary, we’ll order diagnostic tests and consult with other specialists.

Risk management.

Understanding what behaviors reduce risks and implementing lifestyle changes can slow or prevent the progression of heart disease. Smoking cessation, an exercise plan, stress management or dietary changes may be suggested as part of a personalized wellness program.

Cardiac rehabilitation.

If you’ve experienced a cardiac event, our cardiac rehabilitation department may suggest participation in an intensive lifestyle plan such as Dr. Ornish’s Program for Reversing Heart Disease®, designed to restore and maintain heart health. Read More About Cardiac Rehab

Women’s hearts are different.

Heart attacks in women often present differently than those in men. Many times, symptoms are more subtle than sufferers anticipate and are mistaken for heartburn, the flu or the effects of aging. Be on the lookout for:

  • Uncomfortable tightness or burning in the chest
  • Pressure in the arms and back, particularly between the shoulder blades
  • Throat or jaw discomfort
  • Stomach pain or nausea
  • Dizziness or shortness of breath
  • Fatigue that doesn’t go away

Even passing pains that match these descriptions should be mentioned to your provider. Persistent pain that lasts for over 20 minutes may be the sign of an imminent attack that could necessitate an emergency response. View Video on Heart Attack Warning Signs
