Psychiatry Wellness
Your wellness is of paramount importance to us during your training. Our ultimate goal is for you to have joy and meaning in the work that you do. We integrate wellness into training through various initiatives and resources.
Systems of Care
At AtlantiCare you will never have to adjust your circadian rhythm because we do not rely on a night-float system! We have a dedicated full-time attending on service every evening and you will never be on-call without direct supervision. PGY-1’s do not have any overnight call and typically work 5-6 calls per month, PGY-2’s have call 3-4 times per month and will only be on-call overnight twice in the entire year, and PGY-3’s only have call once per month which is typically a 24-hour shift.
As PGY-4’s you will not have any call except for providing approximately 4 supervised calls for interns during the first two months of the academic year. While rotating on the Internal Medicine teaching service you will have a cap of five patients and no medicine call shifts! Our psychiatric inpatient service is fully staff by three full-time teaching attendings, social workers and therapists.
Work-Life Balance
We know how unexpected life can be and how long you waited to get your car serviced or make your dental appointment. You will receive two wellness days per year to be used anytime for any reason. Additionally, AtlantiCare celebrates our residents with annual Holiday parties, free lunches, welcome BBQs, holiday gifts, resident retreats, and thank a doctor day just to name a few perks!
Our wellness committee plans resident social events such as Friendsgiving, Post PRITE Happy Hour, golf outings, visiting the local wineries, dinners at the fabulous beach town restaurants, beach days and nature walks. During lunch breaks residents can often be found walking the boardwalk, shopping the retail outlets or sticking their feet in the sand and breathing in the salt air for a moment of calm.
Education and Resources
Residents are provided with online resources as well as lectures on how to recognize the signs of burnout and how to manage stress. At AtlantiCare we are provided with a discounted fee to the Life Center where you can workout, take classes or swim laps. There is also a resident wellness room in the hospital equipped with a treadmill and workout materials. The on-call room was renovated and includes a wardrobe filled with scrubs, a work desk and computer, PPE and some Bath and Body Works products, because who doesn’t love that?
