Career Growth

Happy healthcare professional

AtlantiCare offers nurses opportunities for career advancement. Benefits, career growth, and a great work environment based on Kristen Swanson’s middle range Theory of Caring.  Swanson’s theory embodies striving to understand what others are experiencing, being active and genuine in our interactions, doing for others what they are unable to do for themselves, and maintaining belief  or sustaining faith in the capacity of others.    Our great work environment along with our commitment to caring help to create a thriving Magnet culture contributing to excellent staff engagement.

Professional Ladder Program

This voluntary program offers four levels of achievement rewarding nurses with a financial stipend to recognize commitment for professional development. Each level aligns with the ANCC Magnet components to demonstrate commitment to professional development, care delivery, volunteerism, committee participation, research and evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning. “Ladder Buddies,” nurses who are experts in the ladder process, are available in navigating the ladder journey.

Nurse Preceptors

Preceptors are vital to the transition of new graduate and experienced nurses into the practice environment at AtlantiCare. Preceptors attend a formal educational program to prepare for this role.

Vizient/AACN New Graduate Nurse Residency Program

All nurses who are new to practice are enrolled into AtlantiCare’s Vizient/AACN New Graduate Nurse Residency Program, a one year nationally accredited program that facilitates the transition to successful independent practice. The program provides additional support for new nurses through monthly seminars taught by program facilitators and content experts, and formalized mentorship. Outcomes of this program include increased competence and confidence, higher levels of professional satisfaction, stronger leadership and communication skills, and greater knowledge of wellness and resiliency strategies.

Critical Care Residency/Fellowship Program

AtlantiCare’s Critical Care Residency/Fellowship Program, taught by clinical experts, prepares both novice and experienced nurses for rewarding careers in progressive and critical care specialties. Founded on evidence-based content and delivery methods, the Critical Care Residency/Fellowship Program provides over 30 hours of active learning strategies to prepare nurses for professional practice.
