AtlantiCare provides breast screening and diagnostic digital mammography as well as stereotactic, surgical, ultrasound- and MRI-guided breast biopsies. Other advanced options include 3D mammography (tomosynthesis) with smart curve compression to deliver more comfort and contrast enhancement 2D mammography to detect even the smallest of tumors.
Pap Test
Of all the gynecologic cancers, only cervical cancer has a screening test — the Pap test — that can find this cancer or precancerous cell changes early, when treatment works best. Our AtlantiCare Physician Group OBGYN providers each offer Pap tests and other well-woman services.
Colonoscopy
If you’re 45 or older or have a family history of colorectal cancer, the most effective way to reduce your risk is to schedule a screening colonoscopy. This test searches for potentially cancerous polyps (abnormal cell growths on the inside lining of the colon or rectum). Catching these polyps early can stop them from ever becoming cancer or detect cancer when it’s highly curable. Do it for yourself — it’s fast, painless and could save your life.
Low-Dose CT Lung Scan
With lung cancer, the warning signs usually don’t appear until the disease has advanced, which is why getting screened is so important for high-risk patients. AtlantiCare offers low-dose CT scans, a groundbreaking tool that can catch lung cancer before symptoms show. During this simple test, which only takes five minutes to complete, an X-ray machine scans the entire body, using low doses of radiation to make detailed pictures of the lungs. It’s safe, painless and has proven to reduce the risk of lung cancer death by up to 20%.
You qualify for a screening if you smoke or have smoked within the last 15 years, are between 55 and 80 and have or exceed a 30 pack-year history (average one pack per day for one year).
Prostate Cancer Screening
AtlantiCare encourages men older than 50 to get annual prostate cancer screenings, which can help catch this common condition early when it can be closely monitored or treated. African-American men and those with a family history of prostate cancer should be screened sooner, typically by age 40 or 45. We offer routine screenings, including a prostate-screening antigen (PSA) blood test and digital rectal exam (DRE) to check for any abnormalities.
Skin Screening
Skin cancer is by far the most common type of cancer, with more men and women diagnosed each year than breast, prostate, lung and colon cancers combined. The good news: skin cancer is highly preventable and almost always curable when caught and treated early. At AtlantiCare, we offer the education you need to keep your skin safe, plus a full range of early detection tools.
