The best care, at all times.
Before or during childbirth, it’s crucial to know that if unexpected complications arise, you and your baby are in good hands. AtlantiCare has partnered with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to bring high-quality newborn care and neonatal intensive care to the babies of southeastern New Jersey.
CHOP’s board-certified neonatologists work alongside our physicians and clinical staff at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center’s Mainland Campus — home to the region’s only Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Together, they collaborate with families and primary care providers to ensure every newborn receives the care they need.
In addition to this world-class expertise, we offer a range of services for infants born premature, underweight or with a critical illness, to ensure their growth and recovery, including:
- Breathing support: Babies who need help to breathe will receive respiratory support including mechanical and/or non-invasive ventilation until they can breathe on their own.
- Feeding assistance: We may provide nutrition through a tube in the nose or mouth until your baby can feed normally.
- Warmth: Your baby may be placed in an incubator or isolette to provide warmth and regulate body temperature.
- Phototherapy: Babies with jaundice, a yellow skin coloration that commonly occurs in newborns, will be treated with special LED lights to help break down excess bilirubin, a pigment in the liver that causes the condition.
- Referrals to specialists: As needed, your baby will receive prompt and readily available access to pediatric specialists, including surgeons.
- Advanced testing and imaging: To urgently diagnose and treat any existing or developing problems.
