Maximum Expertise for High Risk Pregnancies

First things first: a high-risk pregnancy does not necessarily mean that your pregnancy will be more difficult or challenging than a low-risk pregnancy. In fact, it could mean a variety of things. You could have pre-existing conditions that make you high-risk, or pregnancy could cause you to develop certain conditions that make you high-risk.

Some common factors that might contribute to a high-risk pregnancy include:

  • Being over 35 years old
  • Certain lifestyle choices, like smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, or using illegal drugs
  • Having health problems like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart or blood disorders, or other diseases or infections
  • Being overweight
  • Expecting multiple babies
  • Having a history of pregnancy-related disorders

No matter the reason, being high-risk does mean that you will need to consult a maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) specialist and be more closely monitored than someone with a low-risk pregnancy. An MFM specialist is an obstetrician with special training in the management of high-risk pregnancies.

Our Maternal Fetal Medicine Locations

Our MFM providers see patients by referral at two locations: Center for Childbirth-Mainland Campus and our Atlantic City Medical Arts Pavilion.
