The importance of prenatal and postnatal care
Safe and easy access to this type of care is crucial for your family’s and your baby’s health, and a good start can set your baby up for a lifetime of wellness.
However, families in Atlantic City often face obstacles in getting the care they need for themselves and their babies. Safe Beginnings aims to change that, with low-cost or free prenatal and postnatal services designed specifically for families in AC.

The Safe Beginnings prenatal and postnatal care team
The neonatologist is a doctor who provides specialized clinical care for high-risk newborns.
The perinatal/pediatric nurse monitors the pregnancy and keeps both the parents and baby safe and healthy before, during and after delivery.
The doula is a trained companion who provides, physical, emotional and informational support. Doulas are usually paid for out of pocket, so free access to this type of care is a significant advantage for families of Atlantic City.
The certified nurse midwife is a childbirth expert, trained to bring the baby into the world safely and in good health.
The peer specialist is available to families who need additional judgment-free support combating substance use issues. They meet their clients where they are, with empathy and encouragement.
The social worker helps clients connect with other services to improve their quality of life and provides individual and group counseling with further support as needed.
